So what have the Bloks been up to these past two weeks? Not a whole lot, really. I (Tami) started work on the 30th, although for the first week and a half of that I sat in a classroom with two others and received a plethora of information about some computer system that the clinic uses. But it’s okay, I got paid to do this and was usually home by 4:30. I’ve been driving to Everett every day, although this will change as I start working in the different clinics. Friday I was in Mukilteo, tomorrow I’ll be in Marysville, etc… My boss is pretty good about keeping me at the clinics that are either in Everett or south of it. Traffic hasn’t been too bad, and even when it is I find myself thinking “oh hey, I’m an adult, look at me, sitting in traffic listening to NPR on my way home, no big deal don’t worry about it.” In nursing school, where time is money, had I wasted half an hour in traffic I would have sinned in various forms at least 60 times. Also: who’s sick of hearing about Terry Jones? This lady sure is.
Anyway, overall, I’ve really enjoyed work. It’s an odd feeling having the veil of “student” removed. People ask me real life questions and I’m startled because they actually think I’m confident with what comes out of my mouth. When you have the word student next to your name people assume you’re sort of inept, even though our professors always told us we WERE nurses. Hmmm, not really true. Sidenote: the second patient that greeted me when I was in the walk-in clinic was one of my professors - weird. I thought this morning in church that I might actually be thinking like a nurse, because as I was offered the communal cup I actually thought, “Are you serious? It’s flu season,” and promptly crossed myself to receive a blessing instead. Although that just sounds like good sense to me.
Tim has been a little less crazy, but it’s sort of payback for the month I had off this summer, I suppose. It’s been nice having him home when I get there, simply because he makes dinner and takes care of that end. He’s been keeping busy with the latter as well as church stuff, Harry Potter, and some enormous history book on the United States. Not much else going on in our lives. He beat me in Scrabble yesterday, but only by 8 points right at the end. Some dumb word like “jokes” on a triple word score. We also recently purchased a rug for our room (yes, I realize I’m writing about this sort of thing), and I still can’t decide if buying a rug from Good Will is gross. It probably is, but we’re kind of gross people, I guess.
