Thanksgiving used to be the gateway to the Christmas season, and the first Sunday of Advent isn’t until the 28th, but as of this evening, with Seattle largely shut down by snow, I no longer feel like I’m cheating by listening to Christmas music (although that’s been going on for a month or so by now). So here’s one of my favorite Advent pieces: ”O Immanuel”, the last of Arvo Pärt’s Seven Magnificat Antiphons, performed here by Paul Hillier and Theatre of Voices.
O Immanuel, unser König und Lehrer, du Hoffnung und Heiland der Völker: o komm, eile und schaffe uns Hilfe, du unser Herr und unser Gott.
O Emmanuel, our king and counselor, Thou hope and saviour of the nations: O come, make haste to help us, Thou our Lord and our God.
